Rally Stories

Chris, Blackburn

Having returned from 3 days spectating on this years rally, I feel it is now a rip off and not value for money. The volume of spectators is probably the same now as it was several years ago - the problem being the rally is now far too condensed in one area of the country.

We arrived at St. Gwynno at about 10pm on the Thursday - it was quite busy but had no trouble getting into the forest. After the stage the problems started. Leaving after about an hour we had to queue for nearly another hour to get out. We intended to go to Halfway but the traffic heading towards the Eppynt was very busy. We got as far as Sennybridge about 4 miles away and the traffic was basically stationary. By the time we got to the car park the stage was live - so had to abandon and head for Trawscoed. That was 2 stages for £25.00 !!!

In the past I have always managed at least 3 stages per day.

Saturday - left hotel at 6.15am heading for Resolven - about 15 - 20 mile drive - couldn`t get anywhere near to Car Park E, so abandoned and went to Margam. Access into the stage was easy - we were early to say the least. By this time we were not confident of making another stage so didn`t bother. 1 stage for £25.00 !!

Then we tried the service area at Felindre - would not let us in with "day passes" even though the tickets were supposed to be valid and were included in the price ( had to sneak in ). The excuse was the area was too busy and a VIP pass was required !!

Decided to stop for the Sunday even though we had no tickets and got in to Rheola via a non official entrance - at least we got something back out of the event.

Overall the organisation was pretty terrible - to say it's ticket only - but the atmosphere and the company helped to make it a laugh.
